IIO BC called to Qualicum Beach to investigate officer involved shooting

Qualicum Beach, BC: On October 12, 2017, at 6:03 a.m., Oceanside RCMP were asked to assist Emergency Health Services (EHS) who were attending a complaint of a man who had stabbed himself inside a vehicle in the 39000 block of Inland Island Highway. Emergency Health Services advised that they would await the arrival of police and remain in the area.
The attending officers were further advised through calls to 9-1-1 that the man was running down the highway and that someone was trying to restrain him.
Upon police attendance a struggle ensued between police and a male and shot(s) were fired by police.
EHS immediately attended the scene in order to provide medical assistance. The 35-year-old man has since succumbed to his injuries. Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the course of the struggle and were transported to hospital for medical attention.
The scene and any evidence have now been secured.
As per protocols, IIO BC was notified and are now investigating.
