File # 2017-2736

The Oceanside RCMP would like to inform graduating secondary students, their parents and the community about an upcoming event. As part of Grad, in the past, students have participated in weekend scavenger / adventure race activities. Unfortunately in the past few years these scavenger hunts (now coined Death Races) have become filled with high risk behaviour and illegal activities. As the RCMP has learned that students have a Death Race planned for this weekend, a discussion is necessary.

The Oceanside RCMP have confirmed that school administrators and teachers have discussed their displeasure with these activities to the graduating class. As a warning has been given, The Oceanside RCMP will enforce the laws and will not be lenient on students deciding to participate in illegal activities.

The Oceanside RCMP would also like to encourage parents to engage in dialogue with their children and explain that they do not condone such activities.

Hopefully students find a way to celebrate grad that sheds a positive light on the students, their parents, school and community.
