File # 2017-268

On January 9, Members of the Oceanside RCMP were able to piece together an investigation which led them to a suspect, who they identified as being responsible for two local thefts. The thefts occurred in Qualicum Beach (Qualicum Foods) and Parkville (Thrifty Foods) respectively on December 13, 2016 and January 9, 2017.

In addition, it was discovered that when the suspect fled the Qualicum Foods parking lot in his vehicle, he crashed into another vehicle. A call from the public led police to the suspect, a 58 year old Qualicum Beach man.

We have the public to thank as they called the police, reported the hit and run and were able to provide the correct licence plate number. The van was the link between the suspect and the two thefts. - States Cpl. Foreman

The suspect, who is well known to police was released on a Promise to Appear at Nanaimo Provincial Court on March 7.
